Privacy Policy

Squadron Datapad ("the app", "we", "us") is a free companion app for the Star Wars: X-Wing miniatures tabletop game. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the app. The app shows no advertising and has no in-app purchases.

What we collect

You can use most of the app without an account. Some data is collected only when you choose to use certain features:

Account & sign-in (optional). If you sign in with Google or Apple to sync squads across devices, we receive and store your email address, display name, and a user ID from that provider through Firebase Authentication. You can also use an anonymous account, which has no email or name.

Your squads (cloud sync). When you are signed in, the squads you build are stored in Google Cloud Firestore, linked to your account, so they sync between your devices. Squad data is your own game content (pilots, upgrades, points) — not personal information.

Usage & diagnostics. We use Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to understand which features are used and to detect crashes. This includes app-interaction events, crash reports, and device/diagnostic information (such as device model, OS version, and app version). For signed-in users this is associated with your account user ID; for anonymous users it is not tied to your identity. On the web app, analytics is optional and off by default — it runs only after you allow it (see Cookies & similar technologies below).

Feedback (optional). If you submit feedback from within the app, we receive your message, the category, your platform, and — only if you choose to enter it — your email address, via a Google Form.

The app downloads game card data (ships, pilots, upgrades) from public community data sources. These requests contain no personal information about you.

What we do not collect

No advertising, no advertising identifiers, and no ad-tracking.
No location data, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access.
No selling or sharing of your personal data with third parties for their own marketing.

How we use data

To provide the app's features — squad building, gameplay tracking, and cloud sync.
To keep the app stable and fix crashes and bugs.
To understand, in aggregate, how the app is used so we can improve it.
To respond to feedback you send us.

Service providers

We rely on Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config) and Google/Apple sign-in to operate the app. Your data is processed by these providers under their own terms and privacy policies. Data is encrypted in transit.

Cookies & similar technologies (web app)

The Squadron Datapad web app uses browser storage in two ways:

Strictly necessary storage. We store small amounts of data in your browser (local storage / IndexedDB) to keep you signed in, cache your squads for offline use, and remember your cookie choice. The app cannot function without this, so it is not optional and requires no consent.
Analytics cookies (optional). If you allow it, Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (for example _ga and _ga_*) to measure feature usage in aggregate. These help us improve the app and are never used for advertising.

Your choice. Analytics cookies are off by default. The first time you open the web app we ask for your consent; nothing non-essential is loaded and no analytics cookies are set unless you select Allow analytics. You can change your mind at any time in Settings → Analytics cookies — turning it off stops collection and clears those cookies. Visitors in the EEA and UK are always asked to opt in before any analytics cookie is set.

The mobile apps do not use cookies; the equivalent analytics there follow your device's privacy settings.

Data retention & deletion

Account and squad data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time, directly in the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your authentication record and your synced squads.

You can also request deletion without the app — see Account & Data Deletion. Aggregated analytics and crash diagnostics are retained for a limited period under Firebase's standard retention settings and are not used to identify you.

Children

Squadron Datapad is a general-audience hobby app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices & rights

Use the app anonymously, without an email or name.
Sign out at any time to stop cloud sync.
Delete your account and data in-app or by request.
Contact us to ask what data we hold or to request its deletion.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, note it in the app or on this page.
